How to Entertain Your Kids Screen-Free
As a parent, you will face so many challenges in raising your kids. Keeping them healthy, keeping them safe, and also keeping them entertained. Computer games and tv shows offer a convenient way to keep them busy – and some even offer educational value as well.
There’s no judgement here – sometimes screen time is a smart tool that allows you to finally take a breather for yourself. But what if I told you that you have other options?
There are tons of other things you can do to entertain your kids screen-free. I hope that by sharing these ideas with you, you’ll be inspired to reduce the screen time of your kids and get them engaged in other inspiring activities.
Get them involved in the kitchen. Have your child help with the cooking process however they can. The sooner they are involved in the process, the better it is for them, as it can help them learn useful skills they can carry forward.
For example, why not make a smoothie with your little one? You can let them put all of the ingredients in the blender, while teaching them the value of healthy eating. Try mixing 1 frozen banana, 3/4 cup blackberries, 2 cups of almond milk, a handful of spinach, a handful of walnuts, and dash of vanilla bean paste or pod. Walnuts provide healthy brain fats, and it’s a great way to add some greens without the taste! Blend well – makes enough to share!
Make a scavenger hunt. This can require a little more planning on your part, but it’s so worth it. Watch your little one engage in problem-solving skills and use their brain power to figure out how to go from clue to clue!
The best part about a scavenger hunt is the win at the end. The prize could be picking a new book at the bookstore, or letting them decide what to make for dinner. Your options are endless, but it could be something that leads to another screen-free activity!
Encourage outdoor play. This one is obvious during the summer months – but even when it’s snowy, why not get suited up? Make snow angels, a snow man, and check out the unique shapes of the snow flakes. Getting to the outdoors is good for everybody, and can help expend some serious energy!

Get a KiwiCo Crate. I started using KiwiCo STEM kits because they can keep your children engaged and entertained, while also offering the experience of creative expression. It’s great for them, and it’s great for mom because it’s delivered right to your door.
